My partner and I adopted Mia, a rescue dog, in February which means we’ve walked more and explored local parks. When taking Mia for a walk, we spend a lot of time standing still waiting for her to satisfy her curiosity in all kinds of wildlife and plants, to stop sniffing and continue walking. With a warm spring in the UK my neighbourhood park has looked lovely – full of daffodils, bluebells and crocuses – and I’ve fortunately had the time to absorb it.

Luke Geissbühler and his children attached an insulated package containing a video camera and iPhone to a weather balloon and launched it into space from Newburgh, New York. The balloon reached 100,000 feet before bursting and returning back to Earth where it was recovered – just 30 miles away from where they launched it!

Here are eight images of the Grand Union Canal at Olton, Solihull. I took the original photo with an iPhone 3G S and added the retro effects with the Lo-Mob app. Lo-Mob adds a retro, low-tech feel to photos, such as ‘through the viewfinder’ (TTV), medium format, 35mm and emulsions. I imagine ‘real’ photographers (who understand the craft – not photo tinkerers like me) or Photoshop experts may be aggrieved at filter apps like Lo-Mob.
