Birmingham: Stories from a digital city

The ‘Birmingham: Stories from a digital city‘ publication was produced as part of the Hello Digital festival held in October 2010. The publication is a collection of interviews, stories and features capturing the role digital media is playing in the city – across business, public services, education and in communities.

I was asked to contribute an article about the open data scene in the city. I wrote a brief introduction to the concept of open data from the point of view of influencing public services. The bulk of the feature highlights examples of the wide variety of public and voluntary work using open data happening in the city, and also in nearby local authorities such as Lichfield, Walsall and Warwickshire.

The publication was produced by Open Box on behalf of Digital Birmingham with support and sponsorship from Marketing Birmingham, Birmingham City Council and Business Link West Midlands.
