A commented podcast RSS feed

2nd December 2008

Last month, I submitted a podcast of conference speeches to the iTunes Music Store. To do this, I needed to make an RSS feed (an XML file) that specifically:

  • conformed to the RSS 2.0 specification
  • included the recommended iTunes RSS tags
  • contained pointers to episodes

After reading several tutorials and following Apple’s specification I made my own RSS feed, filling it out with comments to provide a guide to refer to when updating the feed with future episodes. Hopefully, someone else may find this commented RSS feed (ZIP, 2kb) useful.

As well as using this feed for submission to the iTunes Music Store, you can also share your podcast RSS feed directly for your listeners to subscribe using their RSS reader software or submit it to FeedBurner.

For example, subscribe to a podcast in your RSS reader (this example feed doesn’t actually contain any audio).

Download the source XML file (ZIP, 2kb).
